What is Swim-A-Thon?

Swim-A-Thon, or “SAT” for short, is a major national fundraising initiative in which the majority of swim clubs in Canada participate. The purpose of the SAT is to raise money for a local charity (in our case Southlake Foundation) through swimmer participation in a marathon swim and obtaining pledges for certain lengths swum or even a lump sum financial donation not tied to lengths. In addition to being a major fundraiser, the SAT is also a team-building event and a terrific confidence builder, particularly for younger swimmers. This event will also be a great chance for patrons to interact with our national recognized Head Swim coach Derek McGregor to receive feedback on their technique.

What is our Goal this Year?

This year’s SAT will be the first in AC Vikings / AquaCenter Swim School/ Trinity Swim School history. Our goal will be to have as many participants as possible and hopefully raise money or this very worthwhile cause.

Who Participates in SAT?

All swimmers, parents, siblings, friends of AC Vikings, AquaCenter Swim School and Trinity are welcome to participate. This event will also be open to the public that would like to participate.

How does the SAT work?

  1. Each swimmer will receive a SAT package that contains sponsor forms and other important information. )
  2. Swimmers solicit family, friends, and/or businesses for pledges either by lengths to be swum, or a flat amount.
  3. Swimmers complete their swim on Saturday, April 29th. The goal is to swim 5 km and for the younger swimmers, the goal is 5 km or 2 hours, whichever is completed first.
  4. A parent or other volunteer comes with the younger swimmers and counts their lengths.
  5. On the day of the SAT, parents/guardians/swimmers are to return their completed SAT package along with all the money raised. Cheques are to be made payable to the Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation.
  6. Tax receipts will be issued by Southlake Foundation for all amounts $10 or greater. )
