The head swim coach will develop and work with our home based swim teams, the master, the triathlon as well as a Para Olympic swim team.
The head swimming coach, coaches individuals of all ages or teams in competitive swimming activities. In the position of Head swim coach, this individual must teach persons how to use equipment and proper technique for swimming competitions. The head swim coach must follow all rules and regulations of the health and safety regulations and ensures the students also comply. The head coach will be directly responsible and over see all swim team marketing within the community.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Level II Technical & Theory course of NCCP
- Degree in physical education or related field to athletic coaching
- Minimum 2 years experience coaching swim teams
- CPR & First Aid Certification
- The ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Excellent service and communication skills
- Passion for continuous learning
- Ability to work irregular hours
- Ability to work with children for extended periods of time
- Ability to work with individuals of all ages
- Ability to stand on a pool deck for extended periods of time
- Knowledge using the Team Manager programs
- Ability to communicate with people of all ages
- Experience as a lifeguard and/or swim instructor is preferred
- Must also pass a criminal background investigation
- Bondable
Basic Functions and Responsibilities: Teaching Duties:
- The swimming coach acts as a scout by assessing form, skill and stamina to determine potential talent for swim teams and/or individuals
- Practice sessions for competition are conducted by the swim coach.
- Individuals or teams are instructed on good sportsmanship, competitive spirit and teamwork skills.
- Equipment and supplies are evaluated by the coach for damage and repair.
- The swim coach must be aware of the any medical condition of all swimmers on the team.
- He is familiar with emergency procedures and informs the team of such procedures.
- It is duty of the swim coach to be present at all swim meets and practices.
- Organize Home Club Mini-Meets
- Ability to encourage parents involvement for meets and mini meets
Administrative Duties:
- Set up practice sessions and times
- Complete all forms for Swim Ontario
- Maintain good standing with Swim Ontario
- Maintain progress record for all swimmers
- Keeps records
- Prepares written reports
- Assists with special events and swim meets
- Register for Swim Meets
- Attend Swim Meets
- Order products and supplies (as need)
- Responsible for monitoring the swimming pool (as needed)
- Assisting or rescuing patrons in need of help and performing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or administering first aid as necessary
- Provides instruction to participants in beginning to advanced swimming techniques and skills
- Enforces pool rules and performs pool maintenance and custodial duties as needed.
- Conducts and participates in safety and accident prevention programs (as needed)
- Performs other duties as assigned
